Considerations: Local Administrator Password Management (LAPS) - solution to force expiration and new password auto-generation for local administrator accounts on computers joined to Active Directory.
By default, the LAPS command is not linked to the AD Computers web query. To allow the use of this web action, it must be linked to the AD Computers web query.
Important! Microsoft has introduced Modern LAPS (Local Administrator Password Solution), an enhanced version of the traditional LAPS. The key difference between Old LAPS and Modern LAPS is that Modern LAPS offers integration with both Active Directory and Entra ID (formerly Azure AD), providing improved security and flexibility. Old LAPS primarily supports password management for local administrator accounts on machines joined to on-premises Active Directory.
For more information about Windows LAPS-supported platforms, refer to the following Microsoft article: Windows LAPS supported platforms.
Starting from Cayosoft Administrator version 11.4.0, new web actions are available for Modern LAPS. These web actions allow users to manage the password expiration and auto-generation for local administrator accounts on computers joined to Active Directory or Entra ID via the Cayosoft Administrator Web Portal.
- If you are using Old LAPS in your infrastructure, you can continue using the Old LAPS web actions.
- If you plan to migrate or already use Modern LAPS, you can use the new web actions, labeled Windows LAPS, which support both Active Directory and Entra ID environments.
Important! A scenario where the LAPS password is stored in a different forest is not supported.
These updates provide flexibility to support either version of LAPS depending on your organization's infrastructure needs.
Applies to: Cayosoft Administrator 9.1.0 or later
