Forest Recovery: How to create AWS access keys
Overview
Access keys are long-term credentials for an Identity and Access Management (IAM) user or the AWS account root user. To create AWS access keys for an IAM user, you'll need to follow a series of steps through the AWS Management Console. Access keys consist of an access key ID and a secret access key, which will be used for forest recovery site creation.
Create AWS Access Keys for IAM Users
Sign in to the AWS Management Console by using your administrator account credentials.
Navigate to the IAM Dashboard from the console's main screen, type IAM in the search bar and select the IAM service.
In the IAM Dashboard, choose Users from the navigation panel.
On the user’s details page, navigate to the Security credentials tab.
Scroll down to the Access keys section and click Create access key.
You'll be asked to select the key type for programmatic access, typically for CLI/SDK/API. Select Application running outside AWS.
After the access key is created, you will be presented with both the Access Key ID and Secret Access Key.
IMPORTANT: Save these keys securely by downloading the key pair as a CSV file or copy them manually. Note that the secret access key will only be shown once.
