How to migrate Cayosoft Guardian installation to a new server
This article describes how to migrate your Cayosoft Guardian installation to a new server. This article applies to a scenario where the Cayosoft Guardian history database is located on an external SQL server and a new installation will continue to use that same DB.
Migrating Change History and Configuration
- Install Cayosoft Guardian on a new server following this article: Installing Cayosoft Guardian.
- (For Forest Recovery only) On the old server, open web portal and go Forest Recovery > Agent Management.
- (For Forest Recovery only) Select all agents and press Uninstall.
- Stop the Cayosoft Guardian service on the source and target servers.
- Copy files from
C:\Program Files\Cayo Software\Guardian\keyson the source server to the same location on new server. The installation path might differ in your environment. - (Applicable if a configuration database is located on a built-in localDB SQL server.) Copy files from
C:\ProgramData\Cayo Software\Guardian\databaseon the source server to the same location on new server. - Modify
C:\Program Files\Cayo Software\Guardian\appsettings.json, if you have previously modified the appsettings.json file manually and need to keep these modifications. - Start the Cayosoft Guardian service on the target server.
- (Applicable if both configuration and history database are located on an external SQL Server.) Login to Guardian Web UI and navigate to Settings > System Databases.
- Select a configuration database and open Properties.
- Click Switch to existing configuration.
- In the opened dialog, specify parameters of the previously used Cayosoft Guardian database:
- SQL Server name like Host\Instance
- Database name
- Select SQL Server authentication, if needed. If you created a machine SQL account, leave the checkbox unselected.
- Select I confirm this database is not used by another Guardian Service if the target database was copied or moved from another installation of the Cayosoft Guardian. This Guardian Service would take ownership over this copy of the database even if it contains information about the previous owner.
- In the Switch databases menu, select Configuration database and associated history database.
- Click Yes to complete the operation.
- Wait until the service restarts.
After the service restart, log into the Cayosoft Guardian web portaI and navigate to Settings > Service Settings > Network Settings.
In the Public Cayosoft Guardian Hostname, enter the new server’s hostname (or FQDN) that clients will use going forward.
Save changes and allow the service to reload settings.
