Manage agents
Cayosoft Guardian uses agents to back up and recover domain controllers in an Active Directory forest.
In most cases, agents are deployed and upgraded automatically on managed machines (such as domain controllers and recovery-site machines) during backup plan or recovery plan execution. Manual installation is only required if you need to deploy an agent outside of the normal backup or recovery workflow.
Manually install an agent
- In the Cayosoft Guardian web portal, expand Forest Recovery.
- Click Agent Management.
- Click Download agent, and then save the installer file.
- Copy the installer file to the target machine.
- On the target machine, open Command Prompt as an administrator.

Run the following command to install the agent and point it to the Cayosoft
Guardian server:
msiexec.exe /i "C:\Path\CayosoftGuardianDRAgent.msi" /GUARDIAN_SERVICE_ENDPOINT="https://YOUR_SERVER_IP_OR_NAME/guardian"Note: Replace
C:\Path\CayosoftGuardianDRAgent.msiwith the actual path to the installer file, and replacehttps://YOUR_SERVER_IP_OR_NAME/guardianwith the URL of your Cayosoft Guardian server. - After the installation is complete, return to the Cayosoft Guardian web portal.
- Expand Forest Recovery, and then click Agent Management.
- Select the newly installed agent, and then click Approve.
Agent Management actions
The Agent Management node displays hosts whose agents have communicated with the Cayosoft Guardian server.
Delete a host
Delete a host if it is no longer managed by Cayosoft Guardian or no longer exists.
- In the Cayosoft Guardian web portal, expand Forest Recovery.
- Click Agent Management.
- Select the host.
- Click Delete Host.
Uninstall an agent
- In the Cayosoft Guardian web portal, expand Forest Recovery.
- Click Agent Management.
- Select the host that has the agent installed.
- Click Uninstall Agent.
Retrieve agent logs
- In the Cayosoft Guardian web portal, expand Forest Recovery.
- Click Agent Management.
- Select the host that has the agent installed.
- Click Retrieve Logs.
Agent upgrades
Agent installation and upgrades are typically handled automatically during backup plan or recovery plan execution. If an agent requires manual intervention, use the Agent Management node to review its status and perform the necessary actions.
