Change History: AI-enabled search
Applies to: Cayosoft Guardian 7.4.0 and later · All editions
Cayosoft Guardian includes AI-enabled search for saved queries in Change History. Instead of scrolling the saved query list or remembering what a query was named, describe what you are looking for in plain language and Cayosoft Guardian suggests the saved queries that match, along with the date range and filters it inferred from your request.
AI-enabled search is off until an administrator turns it on. When it is off, Change History search behaves exactly as it did in earlier versions.
Before you begin
- Cayosoft Guardian 7.4.0 or later.
- The installation must be able to reach the Cayosoft AI service. The service authenticates your installation by its installation ID through the Cayosoft license service; no separate account or API key is required.
- You need permission to change service settings to turn the feature on. Using the search once it is on requires no special permission.
Turn on AI-enabled search
AI features start in an undefined state, which means they are not used until someone makes a choice.
- In the Cayosoft Guardian console, go to Settings > Service Settings > AI features.
- Select Enable AI-enabled search for change history queries.
- Save the settings.
The AI features page also shows the version of the AI component in use.
You can also reach the setting from where the feature is used: open Change History search and select the Turn on AI search link shown under Best matches. That link appears only while AI features are undefined. Once you enable and then disable the feature, the prompt does not come back; use the settings page instead.
Search for a saved query
- Open Change History.
- Start typing in the Quick search box. Describe what you want in plain language, for example, new user accounts created last month or critical changes.
- Pause. After you stop typing, Cayosoft Guardian sends your text for interpretation and shows a progress indicator while it works. The indicator reports the stage it has reached: understanding your request, searching your saved queries, matching filters and time ranges, and ranking the best matches.
- Review the suggestions under Best matches. Each suggestion shows the saved query name and the filters that were inferred from your request, such as a date range or a change type.
- Double-click a suggestion to run that saved query with those filters applied.
The plain, non-AI search is always available in the same box: select the Search for <text>… option, or press the Down Arrow to highlight it and press Enter. This runs the standard local search against Change History and does not use AI.
Read the results
- Best matches – the section header for AI suggestions. It carries the AI icon, so you can always tell AI results apart from a local search.
- Inferred filters – filters the AI added on top of the saved query are marked with the AI icon, so you can see what was applied beyond the query's own definition. A suggestion reads as the query name followed by what the AI added, for example New User Accounts (when: 1 Apr – 1 May; action: created).
- The disclaimer – the warning icon at the right of the expanded search field shows the text AI-suggested queries and filters may not fully match your intent. Review the applied filters before relying on the results. Hover over the icon to read it. It appears only while AI features are enabled.
Treat a suggestion as a starting point. Check the filters that were applied before you act on what the results show.
What Cayosoft Guardian sends
Understanding what leaves the installation matters for change auditing, so this is worth stating plainly.
- Your search text is sent for interpretation when AI-enabled search is enabled and you pause while typing.
- Saved query definitions are sent so the service can match your request against them. Only the saved queries you created or that are shared with you are sent – never another user's private queries.
- Change History data is not sent. The service matches your request to saved queries; the query then runs inside your installation against your own data.
- When AI features are disabled, nothing is sent. Cayosoft Guardian makes no connection to the service at all, and the search box shows only the plain search option.
Limits and expected behavior
- Number of suggestions. Five suggestions are shown by default. The cap is configurable, and a hard system limit applies regardless of the configured value.
- Relevance cutoff. Suggestions below a relevance threshold are dropped rather than used to pad the list. Seeing three suggestions when five were requested is normal and is not an error.
- Vague requests. Requests that name a recognizable kind of change are interpreted; for example, important changes or critical changes both resolve to the All critical changes query. Requests with no subject at all, such as stuff or anything interesting, and requests about other products or other kinds of question are reported as unclear rather than answered with a guess.
- Service unavailable. If the AI service cannot be reached, no error is shown. The Best matches section is simply not displayed, and plain search continues to work.
- No matches. If the service returns nothing, no suggestions are shown.
Turn off AI-enabled search
- Go to Settings > Service Settings > AI features.
- Clear Enable AI-enabled search for change history queries.
- Save the settings.
Quick search reverts to the plain Search for <text>… behavior, the Best matches section and the disclaimer are no longer shown, and no further requests are made to the service.
