Switch Microsoft 365 extension back to user-based connection account
Overview
Cayosoft Administrator introduced an option to replace a user-based connection account in your Microsoft 365 extension with a service principal connection account. Additionally, new installations only allow a service principal connection account in the Microsoft 365 extension to align with the best practices by Microsoft. By executing the script provided in this article and following the steps, you can switch to the user-based connection account manually.
The script alters the existing Microsoft 365 extension configuration to add a placeholder user-based connection account. After you run the script, you will be able to specify custom credentials to use a dedicated user-based connection account.
Prerequisites
-
You must run the script on each server in the replication scheme or the standalone instance server where Cayosoft Administrator is installed. The script accesses local Cayosoft Administrator databases in order to alter the Microsoft 365 extension configuration.
When you run the script in the replication scheme, start with a Publisher, then run the script on Subscriber servers.
You must run the script as administrator to successfully edit the configuration files.
The Cayosoft Administrator Service must be running.
The script may be blocked for security purposes. To run it, right-click the .ps1 file and navigate to Properties > General > Security. Select the Unblock checkbox and click Apply.
Steps
Back up local databases in each affected Cayosoft Administrator server. For steps, refer to the following article: Backing up and handling Cayosoft Administrator databases .
Download the script attached to this article in the form of the .ps1 file and copy it to the target Cayosoft Administrator server. Click here to download the script.
On the targetCayosoft Administrator server, right-click the file and click Run with PowerShell. Wait for the script to run. When the run finishes, the Cayosoft Administrator Service will restart.
-
Open the Cayosoft Administrator console and enable the Microsoft 365 extension in Configuration > Connected Systems Extensions > Microsoft 365.
A Microsoft 365 credentials setting should appear.
Click the ... button to enter the credentials for your user-based connection account. Click OK to save the credentials and connect to your tenant. Cayosoft Administrator may request you to grant permissions to the connection account in order to collect data.
In the replication scheme, proceed to performing the steps on your Subscriber servers. For additional information on application registration and granting consent, refer to the following article: Register application and grant consent to access managed tenant.
