Overview
This article covers scenarios to migrate your Cayosoft Administrator instance from one server to another.
Licensing
When you migrate a Cayosoft Administrator server, you must license the migrated instance after you complete the initial configuration wizard. Refer to the most frequent licensing scenarios:
-
When migrating a Cayosoft Administrator instance to a network-integrated server, specify the corporate email registered by the Cayosoft Customer Success team in the corresponding window of the Product Activation wizard. Refer to the following article for additional information: Activate Product License dialog.
-
When migrating a Cayosoft Administrator instance to an air-gapped server, reach out to the Cayosoft Customer Success team to have a new license issued. Refer to the following article for additional information: Cayosoft Administrator offline activation.
Migration scenarios
Depending on the type of deployment in your environment, proceed with one of the following scenarios.
Standalone deployment
In the video tutorial, you will learn how to migrate a standalone Cayosoft Administrator instance to a new server.
Perform the following steps to prepare for the migration process:
-
On your existing Cayosoft Administrator server, start the Cayosoft Administrator console.
-
Navigate to Home > Configuration > Settings > Configuration Databases. Export the encryption key by clicking Export key—save both password and the key to use later in the migration process.
-
Quit the Cayosoft Administrator console and stop the Cayosoft Administrator Service: navigate to the Services snap-in, right-click the service and select Stop.
-
Optional: Take note of the account used to run the Cayosoft Administrator Service, if applicable.
-
On your existing Cayosoft Administrator server, back up all Cayosoft Administrator databases. Refer to the following article for steps: Backing up and handling Cayosoft Administrator databases.
Perform the following steps on the new Cayosoft Administrator server to complete the migration:
-
On a new server, install Cayosoft Administrator. Refer to the following article for steps: Installing Cayosoft Administrator. After the initial setup, quit the Cayosoft Administrator console.
-
Run the initial setup wizard. Refer to the following article for additional information: Initial Configuration wizard.
-
After the initial setup, quit the Cayosoft Administrator console and stop the Cayosoft Administrator Service: navigate to the Services snap-in, right-click the service and select Stop.
-
On the new server, navigate to the following path:
CopyC:\Program Files\Cayo Software\AdminAssistant\
Copy the backed up databases to the folder. When prompted to overwrite the database files, confirm the overwrite procedure.
-
Optional: Specify the account used to run the Cayosoft Administrator Service, if applicable. Navigate to the Services snap-in, right-click the service and select Properties. In the Log on tab, select This account and specify the credentials.
-
Start the Cayosoft Administrator Service: navigate to the Services snap-in, right-click the service and select Start.
NOTE: The Cayosoft Administrator console might take extra time to initialize during the first launch after the database migration.
-
Run the Cayosoft Administrator console. Navigate to Home > Configuration > Settings > Configuration Databases. Import the encryption key by clicking Import key—link the previously imported key; specify the password when prompted.
The migration process is complete; you can now proceed with setting up your new Cayosoft Administrator server.
High-availability-enabled environment
In high-availability-enabled environments, you might need to migrate either a Publisher or Subscriber server in your Cayosoft Administrator deployment. Review the steps of the following role-based scenarios to perform the migration.
Migrating Publisher servers
-
Perform the steps listed in the Standalone deployment section.
-
In each Subscriber console, navigate to Configuration > Settings > Replication & High Availability. Specify the new Publisher IP and save changes.
-
Navigate to Rules > Built-in Rules (Pre-configured) > Replication and manually run the rule.
Migrating Subscriber servers
To migrate a Subscriber server, perform the steps listed in the Standalone deployment section. Once you deploy and configure a new Subscriber server, run the Replication rule and review the synchronization history in the Publisher server console to verify the successful deployment.
Notes
-
When migrating Subscriber servers, you cannot manually take down the servers from the synchronization history. Cayosoft Administrator automatically removes servers from the synchronization history after two days of inactivity.
-
By default, Cayosoft Administrator archives the Execution History log in
C:\ProgramData\Cayo Software\AdminAssistant\Backup\RunHistory
. Copy and archive the log, if needed.
